Why we built it ourselves
Vendor identity platforms solve the basics well, but pricing and flexibility both degrade once you need custom role hierarchies or multi-tenant boundaries. Building once and reusing across every project means that cost is paid a single time, not per client. We've written more about the reasoning in why we built our own identity server instead of buying one.
